With teeth as pearly as Firmino’s and an Egyptian king playing for your team, it is easy to be cast aside and forgotten. But no one can underestimate the overwhelming importance of Sadio Mane to Liverpool’s title challenge.
At the start of the Premier League season, the talk was all about whether Mo Salah had the ability to become more than a one season wonder. Yet, the question we should be asking is who will step up to his level. No team has ever won the Premier League with just one player (Although Harry Kane tries his hardest to become the first person to win it by himself). It’s a collection of hard work, effort, and of course scoring goals. Sadio Mane is the support Salah needs to take Liverpool to their first League title in 28 years.
Sadio Mane Last Season
Last season, Mane certainly played his part, assisting seven goals as well as knocking in ten of his own for good measure. This year, however, it appears Klopp is demanding more, and more is what he is getting. Four games in and Mane has set the Premier League on fire.
Four goals in just as many matches have led to him being crowned the PFA Premier League Player of the Month. This is no small feat. Mane’s role has been overlooked time and time again. Yet, he has proven he can grab the goals whether Salah is about or not.
Sadio vs Salah
With 32 goals in 36 matches last season, Salah has been deemed pivotal to Liverpool’s campaign. But there should be less pressure on him repeating this epic feat thanks to his Senegalese teammate helping him out.
Mane Is almost halfway to equalling his goal tally for last season and he’s only a few games in. If Sadio Mane can continue this fine run of form, then the burden placed on Salah shall be lifted, leaving him to do what he does best.
The Key To Mane’s Success This So Far This Season
The key success to Mane’s season is the fullbacks. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson are a formidable twosome. Klopp essentially has the pair playing as wingers, giving Mane space to be in even more advanced position. Add Robertson’s ability to put a ball in the mixer and you are looking at the reason Mane has started the season so well.
There will be many factors that decide Liverpool’s fate this season. Each and every player will have to show the consistency, something which the Reds have lacked for an eternity. But one thing is for certain, Mane can be Liverpool’s main man.
