Match Preview

Peter Phillips talks to Paul Smith about all things LFC IN Kyiv.

What were your thoughts on the Brighton performance?

A professional one. One that needed our full concentration and that’s what it got. Composed, head strong and 100% on the game. It was a very good performance and Brighton felt the wrath of it.

How important was it to cement Champions League football before the final?

Massive. It takes the weight from our shoulders knowing that we’re there again. We can go into the game on the 26th with a clear conscience.

Who is your player and young player of the year?

Salah. Who’d have thought he’d have a season like this. Absolute gem.

Trent Alexander Arnold. 19 year old local lad. The lad has come on leaps and bounds. He’s got so much in his locker and he can be immense. Future captain?

Where in the squad do you think Klopp will strengthen?

We need to strengthen in a few areas I believe, but I don’t think Klopp will buy big or spend big. Personally I think we need a new keeper. Or someone to challenge Karius. With Keita I still think we need two midfielders even though Can is likely to go. A quality right sided centre back to partner VVD. And last, a versatile attacker who is comfortable playing in a few positions. Nabil Fekir is one I’d like to see come in. I trust Klopp, he will get it right.

Who would you like to see Klopp buy in the summer?

Nick Pope from Burnley.
Ryan Sessengon from Fulham
Nabil Fekir from Lyon
Toby Alderwield from spurs
Wilfried Ndidi from Leicester
Maybe one or two more for depth.

Who do you think will leave the club in the summer?

I don’t see many going. This season has shown you need depth and we need it.

Mingolet, Moreno, Can, Grujic, Klavan, Ings and Sturridge. The other fringe players on loan.

Going into the Champions league final. Are you confident we can make it number six?

100% we’ve every chance of winning it. I believe our boys, our fans and our manager will do just that. We’ve been amazing in this competition and played some fantastic football. I’m really excited cannot wait. Up the reds!

What would your line up be in the final?

Think that speaks for itself with our injuries at the min.

Kauris – Trent Lovern VVD Robbo – Milner Hendo Gini – Salah Bobby Mane.

Score prediction and why please?

6-0 haha. No it will be a very nervous and tight first half both teams trying to work each other out. In the end I hope the boys get it done so going 2-0… YNWA
