All the headlines surrounding Liverpool involve Virgil van Dijk and his latest injury.

For those that do not already know, the Dutch defender will be facing a significant period of time on the sidelines after it was confirmed that he had suffered an ACL injury.

Van Dijk picked up the potentially season-ending injury in their controversial Merseyside derby with Everton at the weekend, and there are fears now that Liverpool’s quest to retain their Premier League title at the end of the campaign. Indeed, whilst it may seem an overreaction to the situation, many Reds will feel the same way as there is no doubt that he has significantly improved things for the club since his arrival from Southampton.

The Dutchman joined with a slight knock and was forced to miss their game against Manchester City, however they managed to make do without him as they won 4-3

Huddersfield (A) | Premier League | January 2018
Result: 3-0

He also missed their game against Huddersfield Town in January as well, but the Reds were more than a match for the Terriers as they kept a clean sheet in their 3-0 victory.

Porto (H) | Champions League | March 2018
Result: 0-0

Jurgen Klopp made changes to his side and after a comfortable 5-0 victory in the first leg, he opted against using his Dutchman.

Chelsea (H) | League Cup | September 2018
Result: 1-2

Van Dijk was left out of this game as Liverpool were knocked out of the competition via a wondergoal from Eden Hazard.

Wolves (A) | FA Cup | January 2019
Result: 1-2

Liverpool lost 2-1 to Wolverhamton Wanderers in their FA Cup contest without the big man at the back.

Bayern Munich (H) | Champions League | February 2019
Result: 0-0

Van Dijk was suspended for this tie, although his absence did not appear to make that much of a difference as they held the Germans to a goalless draw. He did return for the next leg and helped his side record a 3-1 victory as they went on their way to lift the UEFA Champions League.

MK Dons (A) | League Cup | September 2019
Result: 2-0

The defender was simply afforded a rest day when they travelled to Milton Keynes to face MK Dons. Perhaps he could have spent his time wisely by visiting places such as cinema casino online casino whilst he watched his team-mates ge the job done?

Arsenal (H) | League Cup | October 2019
Result: 5-5 – Liverpool win on penalties

A game that used the youngsters, hence the 5-5 scoreline…

Aston Villa (A) | League Cup | December 2019
Result: 0-5

Van Dijk simply missed this game because he was in Qatar for the Club World Cup for Liverpool. Liverpool got beat 5-0 but, again, a game for the youngsters and not the first-team.

Monterrey (N) | Club World Cup | December 2019
Result: 2-1

He actually sat out the first game of the tournament, as the club defeated Monterrey so he could compete in the final of the competition instead.

Everton (H) | FA Cup | January 2020
Result: 1-0

Sat out of a Merseyside derby in the FA Cup would have raised eyebrows, however Klopp’s decision certainly paid off.

Shrewsbury (A) | FA Cup | January 2020
Result: 2-2

He would not feature in the next round, either, which led to the club having to add another game to their already lengthy schedule.

Shrewsbury (H) | FA Cup | February 2020
Result: 1-0

Van Dijk did not get on at all against Shrewsbury across the two games, but thankfully the Reds did come to rue that decision.

Ajax (A) | Champions League | October 2020
Result: 0-1

The first of the latest spell of games that Van Dijk will now miss ended as well as Liverpool would have hoped, as they recorded a 1-0 victory in Amsterdam to get their Group Stage of to a flyer. They did need an own goal from Nicolas Tagliafico, though.
