Champions League:
Liverpool have one foot in Kiev after a convincing victory against AS Roma in the semi-final of the Champions League.
Two early goals in the first half from Mohamed Salah capped off a brilliant first-half performance before the Egyptian provided two more for Mane and Firmino in the second half.
Roberto Firmino added a 5th for Liverpool midway through the second half but things took a turn for the reds late in the game. Edin Dzeko pulled one back with 10 minutes to go.
Minutes later, Roma were awarded a penalty after James Milner had controlled the ball with his hands. Perotti’s penalty was no match for Loris Karius.
Despite conceding two late goals, Liverpool travel to Rome next Wednesday with a three-goal cushion.
Speaking after the game, Jurgen Klopp offered his thoughts on the performance:
”5-2 is still a fantastic result. I could not have even imagined this result. We made defensively, one mistake, we knew before the game they had quality.
Club News:
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain suffered an injury in Liverpool’s 5-2 win over Roma. The England international went down in pain and needed a stretcher to be taken off.
Klopp: “It’s probably a really bad injury. If you can say that before the scan, it’s never good news.”
The manager also had high praise for Mohamed Salah who scored two goals and assisted two.
Klopp: “He’s got to be regarded, form-wise, one if not the best player on the planet.”
