Liverpool might not have been the most active club in the winter transfer window like other premier league clubs. But they did sign one player this winter. Luiz Diaz a Columbian winger who plays for Porto FC will now play in the red part of Merseyside at Anfield.
Liverpool signed the Winger 24 hours before the window ended. A successful late pursue ensured that the Winger came to Anfield. With the potential and attacking threat that Luiz Diaz brings to the table, the 50 million Liverpool paid to Porto is surely a bargain.
Had they waited till the end of the season, an attacker like this would have surely cost them an additional 20-30 million in the summer transfer window. But that’s not to say the winger didn’t grab the attention of other European clubs. Tottenham was also in pursuit of signing the winger, but Liverpool acted fast and took him away from the North London club.
It was a smart, sensible buy from Liverpool, as they signed him in the dying moments of the window, he was surely worth the wait.
Jürgen Klopp made his intentions clear to Liverpool, that he wanted this signing to go through, no matter what. After the signing was made official, Klopp was extremely happy.
Speaking to the club’s website Klopp expressed,
“I could not be happier that we’ve been able to get this deal done and bring Luis to Liverpool.
“I have always been a believer in only signing players in January if you would want to sign them in the summer, and that’s very much the case with Luis.
“He is an outstanding player and someone we’ve been tracking for a very long time.
“We believe he has everything needed to fit into our way and adapt to the Premier League, both physically and mentally. He is a player who is hungry for success and knows you have to fight to get what you want.
“He is a fighter, no doubt. He’s a skillful team player who has always the goal in mind.”
While they made an exciting buy, Liverpool also had some outgoings. They released Tony Gallacher and Morgan Boyes from the club, while Liam Hughes and Nathaniel Phillips were loaned out to Stalybridge Celtic and Bournemouth, respectively.
Liverpool and Klopp will be very happy at the end of the window, but unfortunately for them, their deadline-day chase of Fulham prospect Fabio Carvalho fell through despite the two clubs agreeing on a deal.
The Reds, on the other hand, will be confident in getting him in when the summer window opens.
Liverpool Have made it to the finals of the League cup and is a strong contender for the FA Cup. Liverpool would hope that Diaz can create a difference at the fag end of this season. Not to forget, they are still chasing Man City in the premier league and they are always a dangerous side in the Champions League.
They are still alive in all four competitions and how many they will win only time will tell. But rest assured Anfield and Liverpool fans can welcome their new dazzling winger – Luiz Diaz!
