Earlier this year, when news about Mbappé’s reluctance to extend his contract with Paris Saint Germain broke, people started speculating about where he is headed from Paris – and Liverpool emerged as one of the likely destinations. At the time, the negotiations between the 22-year-old Frenchman and the club’s leadership were still ongoing, with PSG’s offer going stellar in the process. Still, Mbappé made it clear that his time in Paris is coming to an end. Where will he go from here? That’s a question not even the most reputable Thai betting site dares to speculate at this point.

Mbappé would like to come to Liverpool

Mbappé has made it clear several times that if he’s to come to the Premier League, Liverpool would probably be his first choice. Speaking to Le Parisien earlier this year, Mbappé has revealed that he was “tempted” to leave PSG and “could see himself” playing with the Reds.

The thing is, the 22-year-old former wunderkind was linked with Liverpool several times in the last year. At one point, it was even speculated that he would replace Mohamed Salah, whom Liverpool was expected to sell to make room for him.

Can Liverpool afford him?

Considering his star power and skill, Mbappé has a stellar market value – €160 million (that’s almost £140 million today). After a disastrous 2020, nobody expects spectacular transfers to happen this year, especially not amounts like the Frenchman’s price tag.

But Liverpool reportedly has the possibility to secure the funds for his signing. The Reds were holding out for a high-class footballer for years – Jadon Sancho, who the team had its collective eyes on since the time he spent in Manchester City’s youth academy. As the player has already signed with Manchester City, there might be enough funds to go around to sign the Frenchman.

Who are the other contenders?

But Liverpool is not the only team Mbappé was connected to recently. Another contender that has been ‘flirting’ with the Frenchman for quite some time is Real Madrid, a club that is reportedly bent on signing him even though its finances are in really bad shape after last year.

Another contender would be Manchester City. The club is looking for a replacement for Sergio Aguero this summer, and chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has promised to sign a high-profile player to fill his shoes.

Mbappé has made it clear that he wants to leave PSG. Other than that, his future is still undecided. It was previously speculated that a decision will be made after France finishes the EURO 2020 – now that the team has crashed out of the tournament, the news may drop any day.
